An opportunity has arisen at Pasta Foods and Snack Creations for a Trainee or Graduate New Product Development (NPD) Technologist. The successful candidate will join a small but successful team based at our Great Yarmouth site.

Across our 3 Norfolk sites, we make assorted pasta shapes that is used in canned goods, salads and ready meals as well as manufacture snack pellets from potato, wheat, maize and pulses. With eating trends changing constantly, our NPD team monitor the market to ensure our products are at the cutting edge of what people want.

Duties of this role include;

  • Conduct pilot plant trials of pasta and snacks extrusions (includes: setting up the machine, managing and weighing out Raw materials, running the extrusion from beginning to end, cleaning machinery, Product assessment/analysis) Please note that this can be physically demanding.
  • Responsible for ordering and sorting all stock of raw materials in weighing room, including analysis and assessments for laboratory pasta and snack extrusion trials.
  • Support the NPD Technologist with assessment and analysis of Laboratory extrusions and factory trials, to evaluate process and assist on sensory panels effectively to communicate to the customer
  • Accountable for sending and managing customer samples.
  • Keep all paperwork in good order including record of all trials and experimental data as well as following the stage gate process of each project.
  • Ensure workplace is clean and tidy – all housekeeping tasks needed to the NPD Lab.
  • Gain an excellent understanding of the pasta and snacks manufacturing process, including recipes, profile and the science behind making our products
  • Understand raw materials and how we use them
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers on project related work and problem solving
  • Working on projects
  • Visit/work from our Norwich site (ability to drive is desirable but not essential)

The right candidate will have;

  • a scientific food qualification or basic NPD experience in a food manufacturing company
  • the desire to learn the science behind pasta and snack manufacturing
  • a positive “can do” attitude
  • the ability to work as a small team or on an individual basis
  • experience of working to strict dealings
  • excellent flexibility, communication and organisational skills

This role has the scope to progress in to an NPD Technologist and potential to occasionally travel internationally for work.
